Year 2019

This project was built in the Teusaquillo neighborhood and its program includes a convent, office spaces, and a chapel. This urban intervention consists of the renovation of two buildings from the 1950s and the construction of a new building with a large interior courtyard.

The aim of this design was to create an austere project where luxury would lie in the spatiality of the courtyard, with light and greenery as protagonists. This courtyard, with its organic shapes to counteract the orthogonality of the existing buildings, generates a meeting space, provides natural ventilation to the office spaces and the multipurpose room, where the community gathers and celebrates the Eucharist.

Among the recreational spaces for the community is the habitable terrace, a space that enjoys views of the hills and the Park Way. There, the sisters gather to sunbathe, enjoy a book under the pergola, or take care of the trees and vegetation.

The bridge

The bridge over the courtyard is the connector between the new and the existing.

It’s a high-traffic area that the sisters traverse daily to access the rooms with the dining area, the library, or the chapel. It is suspended over a stone wall with a lattice over the dining area. Additionally, it is an ideal spot to view the garden and contemplate the greenery and silence that blends with organic shapes surrounding the Virgin.
